Space Data Corporation Expands Operations

Chandler, AZ: February 3, 2003 — The rest of the telecom sector may be in an economic decline, but Space Data Corporation is in a growth mode. Gearing up for a commercial launch later this year, Space Data has moved into expanded facilities in Chandler, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix. The Space Data system will bring wireless communications to more than 50 million rural and underserved consumers throughout the United States.

“Our previous facility was adequate when we were in the research and development stage,” said Gerald Knoblach, CEO and Chairman. “This year, however, we will move to commercial deployment of our SkySiteTM technology and that calls for a new level of operations.” The new facility represents a 50 percent increase in space and the ability to double the number of employees.

Combining low-cost, advanced microelectronics with small, expendable, biodegradable latex weather balloons, Space Data is creating a network of “SkySitesTM” that will operate at approximately 100,000 feet above the earth’s surface to work cooperatively with terrestrial networks, provide seamless, uninterrupted nationwide coverage and operate with existing user equipment

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has formally approved the use of Space Data’s balloon-based technology to provide wireless services. Space Data’s SkySitesTM work in concert with current ground-based wireless systems and do not compete with towers or existing service providers. The SkySiteTM technology will provide service to consumers who do not currently have wireless coverage and will also enable wireless carriers to expand service to customers who roam to outlying suburban and rural areas as well as fill coverage gaps in urban communities.

Space Data Corporation’s new facility is located at 460 South Benson Lane, Chandler, Arizona 85224. The new phone number is 480-722-2100.
